Blast from the Past: Celebrity Eco-Friendly Shoes on April 24, 2008

Celebrity Eco-Friendly Shoes

Celebrities like Gisele Bundchen and Natalie Portman support eco-friendly shoes and have developed their own shoe lines that are environmentally friendly.

In January 2008, Gisele Bundchen's ad campaign featured her scantily clad only with water around her. The ad is to raise awareness for her new Ipanema sandals and her website (ipanemagiselebundchen.com.br) features tips on water conservation. The manufacturer of the sandals, Grendene, claims a number of green policies including recycling 99% of their water.

Gisele has made saving the environment, especially through water conservation, a mission. On her website she states, "Water is very important in my life as in your life. Seventy five percent of our body is made up of water. I think that we have to protect the water, we have to protect what is ours."

Lastly, she thanked all her fans and consumers of her shoes. "I want you to feel very proud because you are doing your part…you are a major part of this project. I have to say from the bottom of my heart, Thank You Very Much for your support. Because if we don't take care of our planet, who is going to do it?"

Natalie Portman was also recently added to the list of "environmentally-friendly" celebs. The famous PETA spokesperson joined with shoe company, Te Casan, to create eco-friendly shoes that are free of any animal testing. Natalie Portman's shoes are limited edition and they only make 100 pairs per size. They are quite pricey, but worth every penny. You can buy them at the Te Casan website (tecasan.com )
